Well met, Questgoers!
SideQuests are a collection of short adventures designed for Fifth Edition. These one-shot style campaigns are designed to be compelling standalone stories that can be implemented, played through, and completed in just a few sessions. Whether you're using them as a filler adventure between your own major story arcs, as one-offs to play with people unfamiliar to roleplaying games, or just because you forgot to plan your next session, the second edition of SideQuests aims to be even more invaluable tools for your GM toolbox.
Each campaign comes with a variety of customization features: Adventure Hooks and Epilogues — so you can naturally ease your players in and out of each and every quest. SideQuests are designed to work in tandem with your own campaigns, so you can easily substitute anything within the modules for your own original content. Each volume also comes with a variety of role-playing, puzzle, looting, and combat scenarios, so players will enjoy them no matter what they personally value in a roleplaying adventure.
Every adventure module comes as a full-colour, beautifully designed PDF, as well as a more minimal print version: So you can either print the modules off without colours or images, or run them digitally straight off of your laptop or tablet. Every module features stunning design, all-original artwork, and gorgeous photography.
As a graphic designer and freelance character artist, one of my biggest aims with SideQuests is to make a collection of digital publications that look every bit as legitimate as all of the gorgeous gaming books that line our shelves. Every SideQuest document has been designed down to the last detail: Page layouts are all beautifully designed, photography renders line the pages with visual flair, and character art all consists of completely original digital paintings.
Choose Your SideQuest!
The first two SideQuests volumes comprised of five modules each (four base modules, as well as a Stretch Goal Bonus) that offered adventures for Level 1 through 10 parties. SideQuests III bucks this trend by offering a collection of brand new modules for any player level. I felt that the natural progression with SideQuests was that by focusing on the overall storyline and giving a rough outline of encounters, you, the trusty GM, are totally free to implement whichever foes best fit your characters' unique situations. This allows you to take these storylines and adapt them to whatever session and setting you may be running!
The five SideQuests III adventures included with this campaign are:
1. Murder At The Redhawk Inn
The Redhawk Inn is a quaint bed and breakfast where nothing could possibly go wrong... or could it? This whodunnit style murder mystery will take players through the criminal underbelly of their city, meeting all kinds of unsavoury characters and traversing through improbable places on the way... In need of a level-agnostic adventure with a heavy focus on roleplaying and investigation? Look no further
2. The Demonslayers
The haunted tomb of a long-banished dark mage has stirred suddenly with a strange arcane presence, tied to an ancient curse... Tasked by a benevolent wizard, the players must make their way through the harrowingly demonic dungeons inside the terrible crypt. This combat-heavy module will focus on vanquishing hoards of abhorrent enemies, culminating with the ultimate standoff between the ultimate foe, neither living nor dead..
3. Tower of the Damned
The charred remains of a legendary tower stand locked away in a forbidden forest - but whispers around town claim that they've seen strange happenings in the defunct shrine... Players will have to climb the many floors of this ghostly tower, solving the spectral puzzles the lie within. What could these phantasmal forces be doing in the burned tower? And why do they only come out at the witching hours, on the nights when the moon is full... This horror-mystery module will test the limits of your player's wits and cunning, offering a puzzle-heavy experience in a largely roleplaying-based one-shot dungeon... but best bring your silvered weapons and holy water, just in case.
4. The Lost City
There are legends of ancient Dwarven ruins, abandoned under the very mountains that once housed them. After stumbling upon a clue to the ruins' whereabouts, the players will make their way through the cliffside mines, into the depths of the mountains - where they will get to uncover the Lost City itself. Of course, all is not as it seems, and what the players know might not be what truly happened... In this adventure, where ancient technologies and magic meet, players will get to explore a sentient mechanical citadel, and discover what happened to the Lost City all those years ago.
5. Tomb of The Ice King
A sudden snowstorm in the mountainous Northern regions prompts the party to seek refuge in a mountainside fortress. Though it seems long abandoned at first, it becomes clear that a sinister spirit resides within the dungeon walls. This adventure begins with a survival scenario in the blizzard, and then unfolds into an exploration-based dungeon crawl, with the final confrontation against a horde of undead and their villainous ruler.
